The One With All the Resolutions
Ok ... so I love LOVE New Years Resolutions, I make them every year. It is almost June ... and I don't even remember what my new years resolutions were this year. So that tells you all how good I am at following my carefully thought out resolutions. But ... I am getting a little worried about some events coming up, so it is time to regroup and re-resolve.
So, the events that are approaching that I need to prepare for (in chronological order)
My ten year highschool reunion in August
Buying a house (I hope!) this winter
Our wedding and honeymoon next summer
So, my two main resolutions are: LOSE WEIGHT!! and, SAVE MONEY!!
So, here are the specifics. These are to be followed June 1 through August 1, at which point they will be re-evaluated:
1. Every paycheck, put at least $10 extra into savings (in addition to what is direct deposited into savings)
2. Follow the budget
3. Work out on my exercise ball before work 3 times per week
4. Walk at lunch time 4 times per week
5. Partake in at least one other physical activity per week (riding bikes with the boys, swimming, etc.)
6. Breakfast will consist of the following options:
*either 1 piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter or
*granola, yogurt, and fruit
7. Only one cup of coffee in the morning, with breakfast.
8. Morning snacks will be carrot sticks and/or apples
9. Lunch will be one slim-fast shake and half a sandwhich (tuna or peanut butter)
10. Afternoon snacks will be carrot sticks and/or apples
11. Drink 64 ounces of water every day (out of my big cup at work-- 2 full cups a day)
12. Dinner will be anything reasonable, with a glass of milk to drink
13. No fast food
14. No ice cream
15. No candy
I like to specify exactly what to eat for breakfast/lunches, because it stresses me out to try and come up with lots of different healthy things to eat and have to buy all the stuff and prepare different lunches, etc. So for my breakfasts and lunches I eat all the same things. Then dinner I have a little more leeway and variety (since I have to plan that for more than just myself) ... as long as it doesn't fall into the fast food/candy/ice cream categories (yes I have eaten ice cream for dinner on more than one occasion -- but only when I am home alone. I would never allow my children to do that!) Anyways ... and the money thing is just to supplement what we are already saving. We are pretty good about saving and following a budget (we have our ups and downs, but we are ok.) ... I just figure that you can always spare ten dollars, right? At least we can. We do not hold ourselves to a really tight budget ... so I know I will always be able to sacrifice $10 worth of Starbucks that week or $10 in "extra" things from Target, or whatever.
So ... I am posting these here to help keep me accountable! Here we go!

Go Jessica! If I can offer one teeny little unasked for bit of advice though? Don't totally ban sugary treats. It's way easier to crash and gorge, and justify the gorging somehow, if you haven't indulged at all. Treat yourself once in a while but don't keep the stuff in the house. That way, one serving really is one serving instead of a whole tub. *smiles guiltily*
